SPORTS MISSION STATEMENT
Our sports program provides an environment that nurtures positive
attitudes, behaviors, and character traits. In addition it provides
students with a good foundation of sports skills that help them
to succeed in a high school sports program.
ELIGIBILITY
· Enrollment as a middle
school student at St. Mark’s.
· Age requirements as stated
in the Greater Houston Athletic Conference Handbook.
· Academic eligibility as determined
by the school and published in the Family Handbook prior to the
school year.
SPORTS OFFERED
· Boys: one soccer team, three
basketball teams, one track and field team.
· Girls: three volleyball teams,
three basketball teams, one track and field team.
TRY-OUTS
Try-outs for fall sports are held before the first day
of school. Try-outs for winter and spring sports are during the
school year. Attendance is required and determine team placement.
· Students are encouraged to
attend camps for the sports they are interested.
· St. Mark’s offers a
summer basketball camp, a spring basketball club, and a spring volleyball
clinic.
SCHEDULES
Being on a sports team is a lesson in time management.
· Practice schedule: Mondays
through Thursdays. (Approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to two hours.)
· Game schedule: There are
usually two games a week, one home game and one away game (Monday
through Friday).
· Tournaments are usually held
Wednesdays through Saturdays. Some tournaments are conducted on
Sunday afternoons.
SPORTS FEE
Families are assessed a $225.00 fee at the start of each
season. The fees contribute to the cost of tournaments, uniforms,
referees, equipment and coaching salaries.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Parent involvement includes transportation, Booster Club,
concession, and tournament workers.
