A LETTER FROM THE ANNUAL FUND CHAIRS

St. Mark’s is our school home and we are grateful to be part of this special family. We are excited to chair the Annual Fund for 2016-2017.

St. Mark’s is place where mistakes are opportunities to grow, every child is known, teaching is tailored to fit the needs of the child, whether they need a different approach or a greater challenge.  Lessons and curriculum are launching pads for ideas, creativity, exploration and discovery.

St. Mark’s is led by forward thinking administrators and grounded in tradition and history.  This is a journey, not an end destination and the journey has twists and turns. The partnership between school and parent has never been more important as we navigate a landscape with global interaction and unprecedented access to information.  

The Annual Fund allows St. Mark’s to embark on and continue the many programs that combine to create this unique and personalized Preschool 2s – 8th grade school in Houston. Headmaster Wagers and Father Miller are not only our leaders, they our peers as parents in this collaboration.

Please join us in supporting the 2016-2017 Annual Fund.  Help us achieve the goal of “Every Family, Every Year.” Our children and the generations who come after them are the beneficiaries of your generosity, and the future is in their hands.

WHAT IS THE ANNUAL FUND?

The Annual Fund is by far the most important fundraising effort at St. Mark’s each year, and gifts at any level demonstrate our community’s commitment to our school’s mission. Each year, we ask you to support our school’s academic and learning environment by making a tax-deductible and discretionary contribution to the St. Mark’s Annual Fund. Donations provide the supplemental resources needed for the full support of our children and their educational development.

WHY IS ANNUAL FUND GIVING NECESSARY IN ADDITION TO TUITION?

Tuition covers our basic operating budget, which includes salaries, benefits, utilities, and campus maintenance. The Annual Fund directly impacts program improvements, and allows us to provide the best environment possible for our children. As a school, we budget for areas like professional development, technology, curriculum, and facilities, but the Annual Fund bolsters these areas.  The entirety of the St. Mark’s experience is made possible by this crucial initiative.  

HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE?

Giving is highly personal, and we encourage every family to consider an amount that is meaningful to them. We value and appreciate every commitment to the Annual Fund.

WHAT IS THE LEADERSHIP CIRCLE?

The Leadership Circle recognizes families who contribute $1,500 or more to the Annual Fund.  A meaningful number of donations at this level are crucial for the overall success of the Annual Fund. This group of leaders makes a significant difference in the life of St. Mark’s. Donors who make gifts at this level are invited to a special event in the spring. 

HOW AND WHEN CAN I GIVE?

  • Pledges and gifts to the campaign can be made September 1 - November 30
  • A pledge is a promise to give that can be paid later; payments are due by June 30, 2017
  • We accept cash, check, credit card, appreciated securities
  • Online giving is available for a one-time gift or gifts on a payment schedule.
  • Many employers offer matching programs that could double or triple your gift; we encourage you to check with your company’s Human Resources Department.

WHAT IS THE FACULTY GROWTH FUND?

Each year, a portion of our Annual Fund  IS allocated to the St. Mark’s Faculty Growth Fund.   Our teachers have the greatest impact on the school experience of our children, and providing for the ongoing growth of their practice is crucial to creating an environment where we ready students for the world that lies ahead. The school has planned to contribute ten percent of our current and future annual funds to continue to grow this resource. Ultimately, this fund will be integral in attracting and retaining the best teachers who are focused on growth and the future of education.

THE CASE FOR 100% PARTICIPATION

Parent participation is a key metric when receiving support from outside organizations. Because each child is an important part of the St. Mark’s community, our goal is for every family to make a gift every year to the Annual Fund. There is strength in numbers – many gifts add up to a large sum each year, and every gift makes a difference no matter the amount. The cumulative effect of consistently high participation propels us even further and speaks to our shared commitment.

We are continuing our tradition of a shorter campaign this year that will conclude on November 30. Our focus through the fall will be to inform parents of the important work the Annual Fund does to support our school, and celebrate the wonderful support we receive along the way.
