Work at St. Mark's

St. Mark’s Episcopal School of Houston, TX, accepts applications for employment from qualified individuals. Positions are filled as they open. Application information is kept on file for one year.

Teachers are required to hold a degree in their teaching field (early childhood, elementary, middle school) and have training and experience in early childhood, elementary, primary or middle schools, commensurate with their requested position. Administrative and staff positions require experience and training supportive of the position. Salaries at St. Mark’s are competitive with local public and private schools.

Substitute teachers should be degreed and preferably experienced. Substitute teachers must complete the same procedures as an applicant for full-time employment.

Current Openings

Extended Programs Receptionist

St. Mark’s Episcopal School in Houston, Texas is seeking a professional, welcoming, engaging individual to serve as the After  School Receptionist. The After School Receptionist is a key position in the life and culture of the school. While there are several specific duties to this job, the main charge of this position is to warmly greet our school families and guests.


The Extended Programs Receptionist will arrive on campus at 12:30 PM to cover the front desk while the morning receptionist takes her one-hour lunch break. Between 1:30 and 3:40 PM, the Extended Programs Receptionist will work closely with the Director of Extended Programs to help prepare for our after school programming. At 3:40, the Extended Programs Receptionist will return to the front desk, taking calls, welcoming parents and guests, and answering questions until 6:00 PM, or until the last child is picked up.


Primary Functions:

  • Receive students, visitors, guests, faculty, and staff in a friendly, courteous manner, and be sensitive to how her/his demeanor is reflective of the School

  • Prioritize job duties with an awareness of having a front desk presence first

  • Adapt accordingly to circumstances that arise

  • Communicate issues, questions, and circumstances to the School’s administration in a timely and professional manner

  • Cover the front desk while our School Receptionist takes her lunch break

  • Prepare and serve snacks for our after school programming

  • Work closely with the Director of Extended Programs to organize students into correct after school camps and help with changing into other clothing if camp requires it

  • Return to the front desk to serve as the After School Receptionist from 3:40 to 6:00 PM

  • Greet school families and guests as they enter the campus through the front door

  • Ensure security using screening software and by directing campus visitors to sign in and carry a visitor badge

  • Answer the phone and direct callers to the appropriate personnel

  • Answer questions regarding school business

  • Filter solicitations

  • Take messages when necessary

  • Oversee students that check out for appointments and later return

  • Support After School by keeping up with drop ins and notifying the student and teacher


Required Skills

  • A love for working with children

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Ability to learn new softwares, including our student information system and security software

  • A warm, kind demeanor while operating the school phone system and greeting guests

  • Proficiency in operating the  fax machine, postage meter, and photocopier


Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Ability to work in a sometimes stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time

  • Physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead

After School Teachers

St. Mark’s Episcopal School has openings for Preschool through Middle School teachers and substitute teachers in our After School Program for the 2017-2018 school year. 

Qualifications: Must be 20 + years old

Child care and/or teaching experience with children strongly preferred.

Responsibilities: Supervising and interacting with students during age appropriate activities, snack and recess times. Assist elementary and middle school students with homework.

Hours: 2:30-6:00 PM Flexible if needed.

Salary: $12 / hour

Middle School Coaches

The Athletic department is seeking qualified coaches for Middle School girls volleyball teams, girls and boys basketball teams, and boys and girls track teams.

Hours are after the school day (Monday through Thursday):  Hours vary on game days as game times depend on  the game schedule:  approximately, 3:00 – 6:30 P.M.    Two hour practices are staggered for girls’ volleyball and basketball practices and vary within the hours of 3:00-7:00 PM.

At least two Fridays and/or Saturdays may be on the schedule for Tournaments/Meets.

  • Must be a high school graduate with some college credits.

  • Must be knowledgeable about the sport and have a positive coaching attitude
