What are the Reading Lists?

All students are receiving a copy of this year’s HAISLN (Houston Area Independent School Library Network) reading list. It will offer a variety of interesting titles to explore over the summer.

If you are looking for reading ideas for the youngest crowd, check out the 2015-2016 2x2 Reading List of picture book titles chosen by the Texas Library Association and recommended for children, age two to grade two. For students in rising Pre-K and Kindergarten, check out the HAISLN Pre-K and Kindergarten Reading List.

In addition, students entering the 3rd through 6th grade can get a head start over the summer reading the Texas Bluebonnet Award Nominees for 2015 – 2016. Students will qualify for a special breakfast in the spring if they read or listen to 10 or more of the titles.

Incoming 6th – 8th graders may participate in the Texas Lone Star Award program. Any 6th – 8th grader who reads 7 or more of the 2015 - 2016 Lone Star titles will be invited to a special luncheon in the spring.

Graduating 8th graders can check out the HAISLN 9th and 10th Grade Reading List.

Be sure to visit your local public library and sign up for the Texas Summer Reading Club. We are so lucky to have great libraries very nearby in West University, Bellaire, and the McGovern Stella Link HPL branch!
