Receptionist and Administrative Assistant to the Head & Business Office
St. Mark’s Receptionist and Administrative Assistant to the Head of School and Business Office is a crucial position for the effective operations of St. Mark’s Episcopal School. While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is greeting our community and supporting administrative needs.
Duties:
Morning Receptionist:
- Arrive at 7:15 AM to turn on phones, greet faculty and check in peace officers
- Receive all guests, faculty and staff, students, vendors and others in a personal way and be sensitive to how demeanor is reflective of the School
- Ensure campus security by directing all visitors to sign in and/or carry a visitors badge
- Quickly adapt to changing needs and rising situations, communicating necessary information to the Director of Operations in a timely manner
- Promptly answer all calls, be knowledgeable about campus activities to answer questions and direct callers to the appropriate person
- Support faculty absences through the substitute process
- Manage and restock lounges with coffee and supplies, assuring lounges remain neat and clean
- Manage copier supplies and report maintenance issues to the IT Department
- Coordinates Front Office staffing and enroll other to assist as needed
- Communicate maintenance emergencies to Facilities team
- Support the daytime receptionist with the following duties:
- Provide lunch and break coverage
- Receive items dropped off by parents and assure they reach their destination
- Make teacher copies upon request
Duties after 9:30 AM:
Head of School Support:
- Effectively and promptly manage the Head of School’s calendar
- Foresee calendar issues and assure Head of School is prepared for the day's meetings
- Plan and execute Head of School’s events including those held in the Head of School residence Leadership Team meetings and monthly All School Meetings
- Coordinate Head of School’s travel and conference arrangements and assist others if needed
Business Office duties:
- Accounts receivable
- Manage tuition, athletic fees and other uploads into tuition management software
- Research and respond to parent questions
- Follow up on past due accounts
- Make bank deposits online and in person under the supervision of the Controller
- Accounts payable
- Process invoices assuring proper coding and approvals
- Enter invoices into Financial Edge accounting software
- Complete weekly check runs, including procuring the signing, scanning and mailing checks under the supervision of the Controller
- Manage filing of vendor contracts and COIs
- Assure W-9s are on file for all vendors
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Working knowledge of the following software and products:
- Microsoft Office
- Google Office Suite
- Knowledge of Blackbaud products is a plus
- Work experience as an executive assistant preferred
- Exposure to accounts payable is required
- Knowledge of independent school settings preferred

Assistant Director of Extended Programs
The Assistant Director of Extended Programs at St. Mark’s School is a key position in the life and culture of the school. The Assistant Director helps with the direct day-to-day operations of the Before and After School Programs and Clubs and Summer Camp. He/she quickly develops the knowledge and skills necessary to stand in when the Director is away.
Duties:
After School Program
- Manage and support the After Care staff with daily operational needs
- Step into After Care teacher roles for supervision when needed
- Manage the scheduling of staff
- Assists the Director with Club provider schedules and building the Fall and Spring Club seasons
- Assists with online needs such as registration, advertising, and marketing
- Builds creative and unique experiences that support the Mission of St. Mark’s school through various program offerings
- Able to manage staff and oversee program independently when the Director is offsite
- Approaches each day with flexibility, professionalism and respect for all students and parents
- Leads and inspires co-workers and is a strong team player.
Summer Camp Duties:
- Assists the Director in developing camp themes and curriculum
- Helps interview and hire of summer camp counselors and staff
- Handles ordering and inventory of camp supplies
- Attends school community events that may take place outside of regular camp hours
- Helps build and manage camp cabins and rosters
- Manages outside vendors engaged for summer camp
- Covers Camp Counselor roles when needed
Holiday Camp Duties:
- Fully manages Holiday Camp operations for Camp Program
- Requires working when remainder of school is closed (i.e. days around Christmas) with non-traditional days off (St. Mark’s is completely closed on all federal holidays)
- Other Duties:
- Confident and able to take leadership of programs in the absence of the Director
- Supporting the receptionist which may include answering phones, welcoming visitors, and monitoring
Qualifications:
- Experience in an independent school or child care environment
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Love of teaching and learning
- Passionate and joyful in interactions with students
- Willing to become a CPR instructor and teach new hires and renewals
- Proficient in basic first aid
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Willing to learn to be proficient in specific software programs designed to meet the needs of After Care and Camps

Early Childhood Teacher

Early Childhood Teaching Assistant

Primary and Lower School Spanish Teacher
St. Mark’s Primary and Lower School Spanish Teacher is an important position for the students, families, and faculty at St. Mark’s Episcopal School. While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is to plan, organize and implement an introduction to the Spanish language for students in grades Preschool 3s- 4th Grade in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and
Duties:
- Plan, prepare and implement activities to introduce 3s - K students to the Spanish language through communicative methodology such as TPR methodology to include: music, puppetry, storytelling and vocabulary games
- Plan, prepare and provide an age-appropriate instructional approach for acquiring Spanish literacy skills for students in grades 1-4
- Identify and select program materials, resources and methodology for use in educational activities
- Regularly review materials and order new materials as needed
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students

Lower School Science Teacher
St. Mark's seeks a Lower School Science Teacher with a passion for developing curiosity and an early interest in science concepts through hands-on lab experiences. The ideal candidate will work effectively as a member of the science content team and with the grade-level teachers to plan all aspects of the Lower School science program. As a member of the Lower School faculty, the science teacher will report to the Head of the Lower School and is responsible for maintaining an engaging science classroom environment and assessing and reporting the progress of the students.
Primary Functions:
- Understands and can implement a STEAM-based approach to science learning with current methods and materials
- Teach science as a core subject to 3rd and 4th grade with concept lessons and lab-based experiences
- Teach science with a lab experience approach for grades Pre-K through 2nd grade
- Establish positive and supportive relationships with each student and family
- Understand and apply assessment-based instruction
- Communicate science goals, student learning, and classroom activities to parents
- Be a contributing member of the Lower School faculty through curriculum committee work and the ongoing work of the division
- Be a contributing member of the Pre-K through 8th-grade science content team through planning and implementing an aligned science program for the school

Summer at St. Mark's Counselor

Weekend Facilities Coordinator
St. Mark’s Weekend Facilities Coordinator is a crucial position for St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and School. While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is to assure Church and School weekend activities are prepared, supported and function smoothly.
Work Type: Part-time, non-exempt
Schedule: 15-20 hours on Saturdays and Sundays, 52 weekends each year. Flexibility on weekend days is required. Hours could range from 7:00-8:00 AM (consistently) and on occasion last until 10:00 PM. Average hours could be:
- Saturday 8:00 AM 1:00 PM
- Sunday 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM (with break) There are some Saturday and Sunday evening events that begin after 6:00 PM
- Holy Week, Easter Vigil, Christmas Eve are services that begin after 6:00 PM. Christmas Eve and Easter Day services are large and require extra manpower. These dates are required for this position when they land on Friday night through Sunday night.
Job Description: The Church and School have many weekend events that need set up, custodial care and minor maintenance support. These events change each week, with the exception of Sunday Church services, classes, and Youth Group which are consistently scheduled.

Sexton
St. Mark’s Sexton is a crucial position for the students, families, and faculty at St. Mark’s Episcopal School. While this position encompasses many different duties, its primary function is running the day-to-day custodial care to the school and church buildings.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church Sunday Nursery Worker
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Houston is looking for nursery workers to provide child care on Sunday mornings from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. These workers should be dedicated to serving families with children and infants, with a strong Christian background. Expected duties will include (but are not limited to) changing diapers, feeding infants, providing snacks, helping toddlers with play, leading Bible story time, and assisting with setup and breakdown of the nursery room. Background checks and Safeguarding God’s Children will be required of all new hires. Pay is $15/hour, with a guaranteed 4 hours every Sunday worked.
