Lower School Athletics

Are you interested in allowing your student to have fun and learn sportsmanship with St. Mark’s friends? St. Mark’s parishioners and students in 1st through 4th have a great opportunity to develop sports skills, exercise, have fun, practice good sportsmanship, foster school and church spirit, and prepare for middle school sportsJoin a St. Mark’s Lower School athletic team! Through the United Church Athletic League (UCAL), 2nd through 4th grade students can participate in basketball, and 1st through 4th graders can participate in soccer. St. Mark's also offers a cross country team for 3rd and 4th graders and a bounce ball team for 1st through 4th graders.

Lower School Seasons

Team Type Co-ed Team  Teams are generally same gender, provided the requisite number of players register. In cases where numbers are limited, co-ed teams will be formed.

Lower School Sports Offered

Lower School Cross Country 3rd - 4th Grade (Fall)

St. Mark’s parishioners and students in 3rd and 4th grade have a great opportunity to develop sports skills, exercise, have fun, practice good sportsmanship, foster school and church spirit, and prepare for middle school sports!

How? Join a St. Mark’s inaugural Lower School cross country team.

Who is eligible? Boys and Girls teams will be formed for 3rd/4th grade with an unlimited number of participants.

When?

  • Practices begin in August.
  • Season ends in mid October.

How much time is involved? 1 weekday game per week, 1-2 Saturday practices per week. Participants will compete in 1-2 Fun Runs with our Middle School cross country team.

Who will coach? Lower School Cross Country is coached by a member of the St. Mark's staff.

How much does it cost to participate? $200 per player, which includes meet entry fees, uniforms, and coaching salaries.

Who else participates? Annunciation Orthodox, Presbyterian, St. John’s, River Oaks Baptist, St. Anne’s, St. Luke’s Church, West U Methodist, St. Vincent’s and other local church organizations

How do I sign up? Please register online and turn in a check to the front office. All forms including payment and waivers must be received to be considered for a slot. 

UCAL Soccer 1st - 4th Grade (Fall)

St. Mark’s parishioners and students in 1st through 4th have a great opportunity to develop sports skills, exercise, have fun, practice good sportsmanship, foster school and church spirit, and prepare for middle school sports!

How? Join a St. Mark’s UCAL (United Church Athletic League) soccer team.

Who is eligible? Boys and Girls teams will be formed for 1st through 4th grade.

  • 1st and 2nd - 7 players max
  • 3rd and 4th - 9 players max
  • Every effort will be made to create enough teams so that everyone has the opportunity to play. In situation where additional teams are not possible, alternatives will be explored.

When?

  • Season begins in late August
  • Regular season ends in October

How much time is involved? 1 weekday game per week, 1-2 Saturday practices per week, for a 7 game season

Who will coach? Our teams are coached by parent volunteers. Teams must have a volunteer coach in order to be formed. Interested in volunteering your time? Submit our coach volunteer form.

How much does it cost to participate? $200 per player, which includes a UCAL fee, uniforms, pictures, and referee costs.

Who else participates? Annunciation Orthodox, Presbyterian, St. John’s, River Oaks Baptist, St. Anne’s, St. Luke’s Church, West U Methodist, St. Vincent’s and other local church organizations

UCAL Basketball 2nd - 4th Grade (Winter)

St. Mark’s parishioners and students in 2nd through 4th grade have a great opportunity to develop sports skills, exercise, have fun, practice good sportsmanship, foster school and church spirit, and prepare for middle school sports!

How? Join a St. Mark’s UCAL (United Church Athletic League) basketball team.

Who is eligible? Boys and Girls teams will be formed for 2nd through 4th grade. Teams are made up of 8-10 players:

  • 2nd grade teams for boys and girls
  • 3rd grade team for boys
  • 3rd grade team for girls
  • 4th grade team for boys
  • 4th grade team for girls
  • Every effort will be made to create enough teams so that everyone has the opportunity to play. In situation where additional teams are not possible, alternatives will be explored.
  • If there are extra students interested in participating, they will be allowed to play for other teams

When?

  • Season begins in late October.
  • Regular season ends in late January.
  • Playoffs will be played for 3rd and 4th grade, ending in February.
  • Games begin for 2nd - 4th grade early September
  • Regular Season will end late October
  • Playoffs will be played in 4th grade in early November.

Intramural Bounce Ball 1st - 4th Grade (Spring)

St. Mark’s students in 1st through 4th grade have a great opportunity to develop volleyball skills, exercise, have fun, practice good sportsmanship, foster school spirit, and prepare for middle school sports!

How? Join a St. Mark’s inaugural Lower School bounce ball team.

What is bounce ball? Bounce ball is a developmentally appropriate build up game to volleyball with a few rule variations. It’s a great way to get both boys and girls interested and playing the game of volleyball.

Who is eligible? Teams will be formed in 1st through 4th grade with an unlimited number of participants. Number of and division of teams is dependent upon enrollment.

When?

  • Practices begin in February.
  • Season ends in April.

How much time is involved? 1-2 Saturday games per week, practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Participants will compete in Saturday Play Days in March and April.

Who will coach? Middle School volleyball coaches will coach skills and officiate during play days.

How much does it cost to participate? $200 per player, which includes, uniforms, and coaching salaries.

Who else participates? This is an intramural program benefiting St. Mark’s students.
