The plans for in-person chapel for 2021-2022.

Welcome back, I hope that you have all had a wonderful summer break! We have had some changes in our religion department, and I am so excited for the growth of our program. Amanda Rea will be serving as our primary and lower school religion teacher. I will continue to teach middle school religion classes and conduct all of the chapel services. In addition, this year I will be concentrating on our service learning program and focusing more on pastoral care of our students, staff, and families.

I cannot tell you how excited I am to have our student back in the chapel this year. In order to accomplish this we are making some changes to our chapel schedule which will allow us to space our students out. Unfortunately, due to our COVID protocols, parents will not be able to attend chapel at the beginning of the year. We promise to take pictures of kids acolyting and post them for you to see!

Below I have listed the chapel schedules and some notes for each division. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns during the year. Blessings to you and your family as we start this new year together!

Primary School Chapel

Chapel for our Preschool 3s through Kindergarten students will be on Wednesday mornings at 9:00, beginning the first week of school. We plan to have our Preschool 2s join us later in the year after they have settled into the routine of school. Starting in September, students will be scheduled to serve as acolytes during those services. If you do not want your child to acolyte, please let Mrs. Rea know.

Lower School Chapel

This year we are splitting our Lower School Chapel into two separate chapel services. 1st and 2nd grade will have chapel on Wednesday mornings at 8:10, and 3rd and 4th grade will have chapel on Thursday mornings at 8:10. Beginning in September, students will have the opportunity to be readers and acolytes during their chapel service. Mrs. Rea will be sharing more information about these schedules; if you do not want your child to acolyte or read please let Mrs. Rea know.

Middle School Chapel

The biggest change to our chapel schedule this year is in middle school. We will be splitting the middle school into two sections to accommodate spacing. 5th and 6th grade will have chapel on A days at 1:20, and 7th and 8th grade will have chapel on B days at 1:20. We realize that having chapel on a letter day is difficult, but working with our schedules and COVID protocols, this was the best way to keep everyone safe and be able to get them back into the chapel!

Our middle school students will have opportunities to serve in chapel as readers and acolytes this year again. Each week an advisory will be the assigned leaders of chapel. They will be responsible for providing acolytes, readers, and helping with set-up and clean-up. As the year progresses, I will be meeting with each advisory, and it is my hope that they will help me to choose the theme, readings, and other elements of our chapel services.
