Summer at St. Mark's

Summer camp is a really special time for our students. They get a chance to relax, do some exploring, investigating, and trying something new. For parents, it’s a time to know your children are safe and having a great time seeing friends and teachers they love. Our faculty and staff have worked diligently throughout the year to provide a safe environment despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and we’re confident we can continue that risk mitigation, communication, and knowledgeable oversight throughout the summer.

In addition to all the playing, investigating and exploring our day camp brings, we’re also offering our new Summer Refresher for St. Mark’s students, which is an optional feature of our day camp. Visit the FAQs at the bottom of this page for more information regarding this exciting new addition.

Through Summer at St. Mark’s, we strive to meet the same standards of our academic programs. Whether our own teachers or an outside vendor are creating and leading summer camps, it is important to us that the camp is mission-appropriate and child-centered.

Day Camp Session Themes

Session One

Stars at Night

Session One: Those stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of Texas! Indoor camping, roasting s’mores, and  other fun outdoor activities fill our first week of camp. Campers will enjoy fun in the sun but also stars at night in decorated classrooms and around the St. Mark’s campus. Dates: June 7-11

Session Three

Session Three: Join us for a fun week in the St. Mark’s ocean. As part of our greater ‘Texas’ theme, we spotlight our nearby coast and ocean life. Whether campers have visited Galveston, Corpus Christi, or the Port, they’ll get a great chance to experience all things under the sea. Each cabin classroom will be decorated for ocean fun, and special crafts and activities will revolve around the theme. Dates: June 21-25

Session Two

Session Two: Houston, we have lift off. With the NASA Space Station so close, campers will have a great time exploring constellations, trying astronaut food and building their own rockets in science, stellar art and other fun camp activities. It's going to be out of this world! Dates: June 14-18

Session Four

Session Four: Our very own arts and innovation festival here at St. Mark’s. Campers will get a chance to try out theatre, creating musical instruments and all kinds of art forms. A great way to end our summer here with lots of creativity and self-expression. Dates: June 28 - July 2

Keeping Campers Safe

Capacity and Cohorts:
For safety, campers will remain with their assigned cohorts and counselors throughout the day while specialty camp teachers visit their classrooms. Activities will be done with safe distancing both in classrooms and across campus. Last summer, our classrooms were measured and we ran the Rosner School Social Distancing Model to suggest safest configurations. Each classroom on campus is set up to allow for social distancing.

Community Standards:
Summer at St. Mark’s will also require a COVID-19 Waiver with camp registration that includes a commitment to monitoring symptoms before attending camp each day. This form is also required by any of our other outside camp providers as well. For more information regarding our health and safety policies during camp, please refer to our Summer at St. Mark’s Camp Guide.

Masking:
Masks are required for all campers and staff but breaks will be offered throughout the day.

Cleaning and Sanitation:
The St. Mark’s campus is already equipped with additional hand sanitizing stations and safety signage for appropriate spacing in our hallways, bathrooms, and classrooms. The school has also been working with our partner facilities cleaning service to make sure we are cleaning and sanitizing our campus with the safest and most efficient products possible. For specific questions regarding our cleaning products or services, please contact our Director of Operations, Eve Grubb.

Health and Safety:
St. Mark’s always strives to provide exceptional safety and care for our camp, but this year it will be an even greater priority. Each year St. Mark’s staff members are trained in CPR and First Aid, and this summer we will be adding a nurse to help supervise extra needs. All camp staff are also required to attend additional training specifically for COVID-19 mitigation.

For more details about our camp policies, please review our Camp Guide.

To read more about the current policies St. Mark's has in place around COVID-19, please visit our COVID-19 webpage. Summer at St. Mark's policies are informed by current recommendations from local, state, federal health officials, agencies, and authorities, including CDC guidelines. As such, these policies may shift or change.
