2014 National Exam Results

The results are in! St. Mark's students are bright, talented, and excellent leaders. We'd like to recognize several students who scored very well on the National Spanish Examination (8th Grade) and the Noetic Learning Math Contest (3rd Grade).

Congratulations to thirty-five 8th Grade Spanish students from St. Mark's Episcopal School who attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2014 National Spanish Examinations.

Students from St. Mark's Episcopal School earned a total of 7 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze medals along with 14 honorable mentions. One student, Pierce, scored 392 out of 400 questions, scoring in the 99th percentile. Not only did Pierce shatter the school record, but he also scored the third highest on the level one test in the entire United States. "Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious," said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, "because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 154,000 students participating in 2014."

Students from St. Marks have a long history of high achievement on these exams and were taught by Spanish teachers, Graciela Cuellar, Christine Anderson and Scott Basso. The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

On April 11, twenty-two 3rd Grade students from St. Mark's School competed in the Noetic Learning Math contest. Noetic Learning Math Contest is a national elementary math problem solving contest held twice a year. In this year's spring contest, 25,166 young mathletes representing 1,377 teams across the country participated.

St. Mark's is proud to announce that 3rd Grader Jackson was named as the team winner, scoring 80% on the contest. Thirteen St. Mark's students received National Honorable Mention, which is awarded to approximately the top 50% of participating mathletes.

Congratulations to all the winners! The contest results demonstrate our students' great problem solving skills and math talents. More detailed information about the Noetic Learning Math Contest can be found at www.noetic-learning.com/mathcontest.
